Mike Morey, classical and electric guitarist, composer, and college professor will participate this Sunday with the worship team at Fellowship Church of Carol Stream at the 9:30 worship service. He has written numerous solo, and chamber works showcasing the guitar as well as music for violin, piano, and orchestra. His recent cd, Bridging the Gap, which contains all original music for guitar, has elevated Mike into a new generation of classical musicians by bringing back the art of improvisation in classical music.

His exploration of composition began under the direction of Blaise Ferrandino, followed by studies in counterpoint, harmony, and orchestration. He later studied improvisation and technique from Chris Carrington and musicianship with Robert Guthrie at Southern Methodist University from which he holds a masters degree in music. In 2007, Mike became the first guitarist in over 20 years to win the prestigious S.M.U. concerto competition with Manuel Ponce's Concierto del Sur. Mike holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas with a related field emphasis in musicology.
