Dual language signup in District 59

The Dual-Language program in Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 is a districtwide choice program, meaning all families can apply. Traditionally, a lottery system is used to select participants because the number of applicants typically exceeds the available slots.

Dual-language kindergarten registration begins on Feb. 21, but parents of incoming kindergartners are invited to one of two upcoming parent information nights, 6:30-8 p.m. Feb. 5 and 21 at Salt Creek School, 65 Kennedy Blvd., Elk Grove Village. Baby-sitting will be available, but you must call (847) 593-4375 to register if you need it.

In Dual-Language, all children in the classroom learn two languages and cultures. The District 59 program integrates native English-speaking students and native Spanish-speaking students for academic instruction, which is presented in both languages. Social and academic learning occurs in an environment that values the culture and language of all students and sets high standards to achieve academic success in both Spanish and English.

The program is beginning its fifth year in District 59.
