Elgin museum celebrates holidays around the world

The Elgin Public Museum will hold its annual “Touching on Traditions” holiday exhibit in December.

People from the around the world have made their home in the Elgin area. They brought with them beliefs and traditions from their homelands, giving the Elgin community a rich diversity.

Bring your family to this winter holiday exhibition, which will feature displays and objects of traditional holiday significance from more than 50 countries. Stop by the International Gift Shop for holiday presents.

It will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, through Dec. 16. It will be open daily from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 22-31. During the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve holidays, it will be open from noon to 3 p.m. and closed Christmas Day.

Admission is $2 or $1 for children, age 3 to 11. The museum staff offer educational programs for schools, Scouts, club and adult groups, available on weekdays. Call (847) 741-6655 or russell_epm@cityofelgin.org to register your group.
