District 207 appoints new board member

The Maine Township High School District 207 school board swore in Carla Owen as a new board member Monday night.

Owen, of Park Ridge, fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Joann Braam, who is moving out of district. The school board conducted interviews with several applicants before selecting Owen, who has been a member of District 207’s Community Advisory Council since it was formed in 2010.

Owen, an attorney, has been active in a variety of roles as an education volunteer, including PTO President at Field Elementary School in Park Ridge and co-chairperson of the Parent Education Committee at Emerson Middle School in Niles. She also served on the Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 Strategic Planning Committee in 2008-09. She’s been a member of the Park Ridge Senior Services Inc. board of directors for 12 years, and is its current president.

Owen’s term runs until the April 2013 election when the seat will be on the ballot as a two-year term.
