Submitted by Elgin Knights of Columbus

On Saturday, Dec. 1, the Elgin Knights of Columbus Monsignor Henry Schryer Council 654 and the Elgin Elks Lodge 737 will host their annual Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest.

St. Thomas More School gym, 1625 W. Highland Ave in Elgin, will play host to this event. The contest runs between 9 and 11:30 a.m. This free event is open to boys and girls, age 8-14. Kids will compete against others in their same age and gender categories.

To participate, all kids need to do is show up with a parent or adult who can register them for the contest. Each contestant will shoot either 15 or 25 free throws. Contestants with the best shooting percentages will be awarded prizes and be eligible to move on to the district finals.

Both the Knights of Columbus Council 654 and Elks Lodge 737 have been part of the Elgin community for more than 100 years. The annual Hoop Shoot Contest is just one of the many community programs that these organizations sponsor.

For information on the contest, call Bruce Martens at (847) 695-5308 or Mike DeBrocke Jr. at (847) 888-2238.
