Holiday Food and Military Collections at Library

Collections for U.S. troops and local food pantries are taking place this holiday season in the lobby of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. The food collection is also taking place at the Hanover Park and Hoffman Estates Branch Libraries.

From now until Sunday, Dec. 9, the Library will be partnering with Operation Support Our Troops to collect items for military personnel. Please donate only the following items (do not bundle): peanut butter (28 oz. or less, plastic jar), jelly (32 oz. or less, plastic jar), individual cold drink mix packets, canned pasta or soup, saltines (16 oz. or less), body wash for men (18 oz. or less), handwarmers, lip balm, over-the-counter cold medication-no liquids. For anyone wishing to include a letter, please use the greeting: “Dear Military Person.” Do not seal letters. No postage is necessary. Letter writers are welcome to include a name and address, but a response is not guaranteed.

In addition to the military collection, the library is holding its semi-annual Food for Fines collection from Friday, Nov. 23 until Monday, Dec. 31 in the lobbies of the central and branch libraries. Library visitors can whittle down their library fines by donating non-perishable food items to receive 50 cents off fines per item; limit 10. Food collected will be donated to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry, Hanover Park Food Pantry and Mead’s School Food Pantry. Expired or perishable items will not be accepted.

The library appreciates all donations and wishes everyone a happy, safe holiday season.
