Library to Hold Special Book Sale in December

A special book sale benefitting In2Books, an organization that promotes literacy learning in grades 3-5, will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5 in the lobby of the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg.

A large variety of gently used books and other materials will be available for the following prices: adult paperbacks, 50 cents; Harlequin paperbacks, five for $1; and adult hardcovers, $1. Children’s books will range from 10 cents to $1. Other items will include audiobooks for $2; games, CD Roms and DVDs for $2, and compact discs for $1.

“The library is happy to hold a fundraiser for In2Books,” said Amy Peterson, head of audiovisual services. “It’s a great organization, and makes literacy fun by having students engage in reading and writing experiences with pen pals.”

Peterson explained that each student is matched with a pen pal who reads the same books. Throughout the year, the student and his or her pen pal exchange letters about the important issues in the books. The pen pal experience is complemented by the classroom study of genre and genre-related literacy.

All ages are welcome to attend the Make a Difference Book Sale at the library. No fee or registration is required.
