Roadway safety campaign in West Chicago successful

West Chicago, Illinois: November 6, 2012 - The West Chicago Police Department announced that Campaign #5 of the Illinois Department of Transportation funded grant was successful in educating the motoring public on child restraint, seatbelt, speeding, and alcohol related violations. The campaign ran from Aug. 17- Sept. 3, 2012 and resulted in 236 citations being issued; 70 for seatbelt and child restraint violations, and 2 violations for driving under the influence.

This grant provides sworn police officers funding for additional hours dedicated to traffic enforcement for child restraint, seatbelt, speeding, and alcohol related violations.

Campaign # 1 of the 2012-2013 STEP Grant will begin on Nov. 12, 2012 and run through Nov. 25, 2012. A continuing effort will be made citywide to make roadways safer by enforcing these violations and educating the public.
