Celebrate the season with Pumpkin, Terror trolleys

Submitted by Fox River Trolley Museum

The leaves are turning, the frost is on the pumpkins, and there are fall activities aplenty going on at the Fox River Trolley Museum in South Elgin.

It’s time to pick out a pumpkin from the Pumpkin Patch at Coleman Yard. The Pumpkin Trolley will operate Oct. 13-14 and 20-21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular fares of $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and $2 for children ages 3-11 apply, with children younger than 3 riding free. Pumpkins are $2 apiece.

Tickets are still available for the reserved-seating, after-hours Terror Trolley Oct. 20 and 27 at 7:45 p.m. See what happens when a trip down the line to the Jon Duerr Forest Preserve is interrupted and you’re left to fend against the wild with little more than a trainman holding a lantern.

There will be a campfire, ghost stories, s’mores and more that will entertain families.

The Terror Trolley is appropriate for junior high school-aged thrill-seekers and older. Fares for this special train are $10 for all ages. Reserve seats online today at www.foxtrolley.org. No passes will be honored, and there will be no refunds or exchanges unless a train is canceled.

The museum’s Halloween Ghost Story Trains and Polar Express are sold out. Tickets for both events in 2013 will go on sale June 1, 2013.

The museum’s regular season continues 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sundays, through Nov. 4.

The Fox River Trolley Museum, run by volunteers dedicated to recreating a bygone era, is at 365 S. La Fox St. (Route 31) in South Elgin. For information or to charter a train, call (847) 697-4676.
