Prospect’s Caporusso’s clutch on campus

The Prospect girls golf team put in its final tuneup for Wednesday’s Class AA Barrington regional by playing on the University of Illinois Blue Course on Saturday.

Knights junior Noreen Caporusso aced her exam in the college town by earning medalist honors with a 1-over-par 75.

Prospect (310) took second place behind champion New Trier (307) in the 15-team John Macek Invite hosted by Champaign Centennial High school.

Caporusso’s round was her best 18-hole score of the season as she collected a pair of birdies. She defeated New Trier’s Callie Nelson, Lois Suh and Ellie McGuire (all shot 76s) by 1 stroke for the title.

Prospect’s Ally Scaccia (77) and Isabella Flack (78) were fifth and sixth respectively while Kiley Walsh (80) finished the Knights’ scorecard with a 10th-place finish.

“I think we’ve had a great week of practice and we are ready to go,” said Knights coach Jim Hamann. “The girls are excited about the postseason.”
