Libertyville prevails at LZ

Girls volleyball

Libertyville d. Lake Zurich: The Wildcats continued their road success, winning25-18, 22-25, 25-16 to improve to 8-2 and 2-0 in the North Suburban Lake Division.

Kristen Webb anchored the defensively stout Wildcats with 24 digs, while Rhiannon Prentiss added 12. Alex Basler contributed 6 blocks, while Taylor Zant and Julia Smagacz had 6 kills apiece. Cindy Zhou totaled 6 blocks, 4 kills and 16 assists.

Carmel d. Wheeling: Ellie Rengers hit 7 of 7 with 6 kills and a block, as the Corsairs captured the nonconference match 25-22, 25-7.

“Wheeling has an athletic front line that kept us guessing defensively early on,” Carmel coach David Pazely said. “Our defense did a great job getting to the ball, and our serve receive was outstanding. Our team has been beat up these last two weeks, but everyone has done a great job making the adjustments and playing outside of their natural positions.”

Erika Schofield added 5 kills, while Alyssa Armada and Mary Paterkiewicz lofted 13 and 11 assists, respectively.

“Our setters were able to mix up our offense because of some great passing, and our hitters were very efficient across the board,” Pazely said. “A great team win as we head into the St. Viator tournament this weekend.”

Grayslake North d. Woodstock: Kelsey Klausner and Joanna Guhl slammed 7 and 6 kills, respectively, as the Knights won 25-23, 25-14 to improve to 5-10 and 1-2 in the Fox Valley Fox Division.
