True purpose of education missed
While District 303 Superintendent Don Schlomann is to be commended for rejecting the foolish obsession with testing students, it is sad that neither he nor the speakers on his guest panel acknowledged the true purpose of public schools — to prepare students to be engaged, informed and thinking citizens in a democratic republic.
Their failure to recognize this critical mission of schools is especially disheartening in a presidential election year.
