Hoffman Estates man killed, 2 hurt in Campton Twp. crash

Kane County Sheriff’s police continue to investigate a fatal traffic crash early Thursday morning that killed a 24-year-old man from Hoffman Estates.

Dustin Jordan was traveling at a high rate of speed west on Empire Road near Kings Wood Road in Campton Township when his 2007 Nissan Altima went off the road for an unknown reason and struck a tree, sheriff’s police said in a news release.

Jordan was pronounced dead at the scene of the 12:05 a.m. crash, authorities said. Front seat passenger Eric Wiechart, 24, of Carol Stream, was transported via helicopter with potential life-threatening injuries to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. A spokeswoman for the hospital late Thursday afternoon said Wiechart remained at the hospital, in critical condition. Vetalik Lord, 25, of St. Charles, a passenger in the back seat, was transported to Delnor Hospital in Geneva with minor injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities have not ruled that alcohol played a role in this crash, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Pat Gengler.

Kane County Sheriff’s detectives and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are continuing to investigate the accident.

Kane County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by Campton Hills police and the Kane County Office of Emergency Management at the scene.
