Author John Scalzi coming to Wheeling

John Scalzi will read from and sign his new book “Redshirts,” at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at the Indian Trails Library, 355 Schoenbeck Road, in Wheeling.

Known for his comedic science fiction novels, Scalzi’s “Redshirts” takes his talent for the absurd to new levels in this laugh-out-loud novel that draws on the premise that the crew who wore red shirts in the television series “Star Trek” were frequently killed after arriving on a new planet.

Scalzi has written a number of science fiction novels, including the Hugo-nominated “Old Man’s War,” the Norton-nominated “Zoe’s Tale,” and the “New York Times” best-seller “Fuzzy Nation.” When he’s not writing novels, he’s the creative consultant for the “Stargate: Universe” television series and a columnist for Filmcritic.com. He also writes nearly daily on his blog, Whatever, from which his Hugo-winning essay collection “Your Hate Mail Will Be Graded” is derived.

The event is free, but registration is required at www.indiantrailslibrary.org or by calling (847) 279-2232.

This event is co-sponsored by the Lake Forest Book Store. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
