Township areas already ‘desirable’
I’m all for saving money, but now I read that Cook County government wants to have unincorporated residents pay extra to make their communities “more desirable for municipalities to annex” even if those residents are happy with their status and their township services. If the county can’t provide public safety and highway maintenance at efficient prices then disband the sheriff’s police and highway department and give us back those tax dollars. Let’s see if nearby towns would be willing to bid for those contracts, just like they do for fire protection.
We choose to live in these areas precisely because they do not have streetlights and sidewalks. We can actually see the stars at night. Here’s a radical idea: Let’s leave these neighborhoods “desirable” for those of us who actually live in them!
