District 59 hires new assistant superintendent

The Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 school board Monday night appointed Rebecca Streit to the position of assistant superintendent for educational services.

Streit replaces Val Gudgeon, who will retire at the end of the current school year. Streit currently serves as executive director of Low Incidence Cooperative Agreement and previously was program administrator for the LaGrange Area Department of Special Education for 17 years.

Streit, who will start in her new role July 1, began her career in education in the Bloomington-Normal area as a teacher of deaf and hard of hearing students.
