10th District Democratic candidates to debate twice

The Democratic candidates for the 10th Congressional District seat will meet in a pair of debates next week in Lake County.

The first session is Feb. 22 at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire. The second debate is Feb. 25 at the Deerfield Hyatt in Deerfield.

Four Democrats will be on the March 20 primary ballot: Vivek Bavda, Brad Schneider, Ilya Sheyman and John Tree.

A fifth Democrat, Aloys Rutagwibira, is running a write-in campaign.

The winner of the Democratic primary will face incumbent Republican Bob Dold in the November general election.

Stevenson's Political Action Club will sponsor the first debate, a tradition for the school. It's set for 8 p.m. in Room 2104 of the school's west building.

Bavda, Schneider and Sheyman have confirmed their attendance. Tree has a prior engagement and cannot attend, the school said.

The second debate will be hosted by a group called the Tenth Congressional District Democrats and the WCPT radio stations. It's set for 1 p.m. at the hotel, 1750 Lake-Cook Road.

The live, on-air forum will be moderated by veteran political journalist Dick Kay.

Bavda, Scheider, Sheyman, and Tree were invited to participate, according to a news release.

Advanced registration is not required, but space is limited.

The forum will be broadcast live on the four WCPT radio stations: 820 AM, 92.5 FM, 92.7 FM and 99.9 FM.
