Soldier visits Des Plaines

Des Plaines Mayor Martin J. Moylan and acting City Manager Jason Slowinski were visited by Private 1st Class Jacob Steffan of the 10th Mountain Division, 3 Brigade Combat Team in Operation Enduring Freedom.

Steffan, a 2005 Maine West High School graduate, was on leave from the Zarni District, Afghanistan. He earned his Expert Combat Infantryman Qualification and Expert Combat Medic qualification before his initial deployment. In addition to his duties as an infantry soldier, he is the medic for his squad.

Mayor Moylan had previously presented Steffan with a Des Plaines flag to take with him overseas to display in Afghanistan. As a “thank you,” Steffan and his mother, Paula, who is a Des Plaines resident, presented the mayor with a photograph of the Des Plaines flag flying in Afghanistan.
