Take a holiday season breather at the Dundee Township Public Library, 555 Barrington Ave. in East Dundee. Special events are planned for all ages.

Winter crafts: Teens are invited to join the library on their day off school and make crafts from household objects at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19. Registration is required.

Holiday movie: Enjoy a free holiday movie with popcorn and refreshments. "Elf" (rated PG; 1 hr. 35 min.) will be shown at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21. It stars Will Ferrell, James Caan, Bob Newhart, Zooey Deschanel, Edward Asner, and Mary Steenburgen. No tickets or reservations are required; audience capacity is 80 people. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for free popcorn and refreshments. Children younger than age 9 must be accompanied by an adult.

Mitten Tree: A friendly reminder that the last day for bringing new mittens, gloves, hats and scarves for the Mitten Tree is Wednesday, Dec. 21. The Mitten Tree is on the lower level in the Children's Department. All items donated will be given to Carpentersville's FISH Food Pantry and the Elgin Community Crisis Center. The library will be closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1.

Video games: The Dundee library has added video games for Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS gaming systems to its collection, which until now only offered Wii games. A total of two video games can be checked out per library card. The loan period is seven days, with no reserves or renewals.

Visit the library's website to browse the collection in our online catalog. (You can narrow your search by typing "Xbox 360 video games" into the search field, for example.) The games can be found on the main level of the library near the Information Services Desk.

The programs are free. To register for a program, visit the "Events & Registration" page at dundeelibrary.info, stop by the Information Services desk on the main level, or call (847) 428-3661, ext. 308.
