Police release image of Subway robbery suspect

Streamwood police are investigating a possible connection between Tuesday night’s armed robbery of a Subway restaurant and two similar Subway holdups in recent weeks.

Police Wednesday afternoon released two images of the suspect taken from a restaurant surveillance camera that captured the latest robbery. Employees of the Streamwood Subway at 3 S. Sutton Road reported that at 8:31 p.m. Tuesday, a white man in his mid-20s to 30s entered and displayed a black handgun.

The man reportedly told employees, “Give me the money,” and forced them toward the cash register, police reports state. He then asked, “Where are the $20s?” but was told the contents of the drawer — totaling $237 — was all there was.

The man also demanded an envelope but was told the restaurant didn’t have any, reports state. After he left, the robber headed north through the restaurant parking lot and then east on Schaumburg Road, witnesses told police.

Employees described the man as 6 feet tall with a heavy build and a blondish goatee. He was wearing a black hooded sweater, black sunglasses, a black three-quarter-length coat, black jogging-type pants and white shoes.

Streamwood High School was placed on lockdown for public safety shortly after the holdup in middle of a basketball game against Hoffman Estates High School after the robber was reported running through the school’s parking lot.

A Batavia Subway restaurant was robbed Nov. 23 by an armed man. And a Subway in Elgin was robbed at gunpoint Dec. 2.

Anyone with information about the robberies or the individual pictured in the video stills is asked to contact Streamwood police Det. Schwartz at (630) 736-3776.
