Stevenson High sees 97 percent of graduates in college

Ninety-seven percent of the students in Stevenson High School’s Class of 2011 are headed to college, according to a new survey.

Those graduates are on 192 campuses this fall, according to the annual survey from the Lincolnshire school’s college and career center.

The survey of 1,069 members of Stevenson’s latest graduating class found 87 percent of those going to college are starting at a four-year school, while 10 percent are heading to two-year institutions.

About 65 percent will attend a public college or university, down from 68 percent last year.

Forty-four percent of the Class of 2011 will attend a school in Illinois.

Overall, Stevenson’s most recent graduates are spread across 38 states and Washington, D.C.

Seven students are at colleges outside the U.S.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign remains the most popular destination for Stevenson graduates. This year, 132 former Patriots are in the freshman class at Illinois.

After Illinois, the most popular public universities among the Class of 2011:

타 Indiana University, with 55 students.

타 The University of Illinois at Chicago, 37 students.

타 The University of Missouri, 37 students.

타 Illinois State University, 35 students.

The top private schools are DePaul University, with 29 students, and Northwestern University, with 17 students.

Twenty-three members of the Class of 2011 did not complete the survey.
