Moto’s Bionic combines faster speed, 4G Verizon network

Libertyville-based Motorola Mobility on Thursday launched its Bionic smartphone in stores and online at a hefty $299.99 with a 2-year contract on Verizon Wireless. Sorry, no rebate this time.

Yet it’s the first 4G LTE, known has Long Term Evolution, device that’s powered by a dual-core 1 gigahertz processor. It also has a 1 gigabyte of RAM and a 4.3-inch display, said Verizon spokesman Albert Aydin. Verizon has its Midwest headquarters in Schaumburg.

“It will allow our customers to multi-task with downloads, calls and video, all in a very seamless, very fast and very comfortable way,” Aydin said.

Motorola and Verizon together announced in January they would introduce more than a half-dozen new devices this year, including the Bionic. They made the announcement at the annual Consumer Electronics trade show.

The Bionic introduces Moto’s ZumoCast, an application that brings your videos, music, pictures and documents stored on your computer to your Android device through remote access. Also, the Lapdock, purchased separately, turns the device into a laptop with an 11.6-inch screen and keyboard.

Also, Verizon offers an optional Mobile Hotspot service starting at $30 a month that allows you to turn your device into a hot spot that can be shared with up to five other devices.

Besides the $299.99 price tag, Verizon customers will need to subscribe to a nationwide talk plan, beginning at $39.99 a month, and a smartphone data package, starting at $30 a month for 2 gigabytes of data.
