Big day for Prospect golfers

It was quite a day for the Prospect girls and boys golf programs at the Homewood-Flossmoor/Providence Invite in Frankfort.

In fact, it was a record-setting Saturday for the girls. The Knights shot a school-record 312 to win the event by 12 strokes over Marian Catholic.

Prospect senior Christine Garmoe tied the school record with a 1-over-par 73 at the Green Garden Country Club.

The Prospect boys also left as champions shooting a 302 for coach Tom Martindale. They topped Waubonsie Valley by 4 strokes.

“It was a great day for Prospect golf,” said Knights girls coach Jim Hamann, whose team broke the 18-hole school record of 314 set in 2007. “Both programs represented the school and community well.”

Garmoe’s big round, which tied Michelle Caporusso, Karly Grouwinkel and Allison Walsh for the school 18-hole standard, included 2 birdies.

“She hit 14 greens in regulation and missed a 5-foot birdie putt on the last hole that would have given her the school record,” Hamann said.

Garmoe placed second to Normal U-High’s Katherine Hepler, who shot a 70. Allison Walsh finished eighth with a 77.

Completing the Knights scores were Kiley Walsh (80), Noreen Caporusso (82) and Ally Scaccia (82).

Prospect’s boys were led by third-place finisher Neil O’Grady (74), fourth-place finisher Ryan Kowalski (76), eighth-place finisher Ryan Maloney (77) and Josh Johnson (78).
