Palatine library to host local authors

The Palatine Public Library District will host a Local Author Fair from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at 700 N. North Court.

Staff invited authors who live or work within 10 miles of Palatine. The afternoon will begin with a question and answer panel discussion featuring local authors Raymond Benson, Nancy Heggem, Elizabeth Anne Hull, Jody Lynn Nye, Frederik Pohl and Tony Romano. At 2 p.m., there will be an opportunity to meet and greet, purchase books, win prizes and get autographs.

“This program gives us a chance to celebrate emerging talents and well-established authors that are in our local community,” said Phil Skeltis, adult programming coordinator. “Visitors will recognize well-known authors from the science fiction, fantasy and mystery genres.”

Raymond Benson has written original James Bond novels and several film novelizations. He is the author of two Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell novels and numerous original thrillers, such as “A Hard Day’s Death” and “The Black Stiletto.”

Frederik Pohl is a legendary science fiction author and Palatine resident. A number of his works have been adapted for the theater, television and film. Some of Pohl’s works include “Gateway,” “The Boy Who Would Live Forever,” “The Other End of Time,” “Jem,” and “Man Plus.” Pohl also had the honor of completing Arthur C. Clark’s final work, “The Last Theorem.”

Jody Lynn Nye is a prolific writer of fantasy and science fiction and has frequently collaborated with other writers, including best-selling author Anne McCaffrey. Some of Nye’s works include “The Dragonlover’s Guide to Pern,” “Visual Guide to Xanth,” “The Ship Who Sang” series, the Doona series, and “View from the Imperium.”

Tables will be set up to meet additional authors, including B.A. Binns, Steven Warren Hill, Susan Kaye Quinn, Mary Beth Sammons, Gerry Souter, Janet Souter and Christopher Tabbert.

This program is funded by the Friends of the Palatine Public Library, in partnership with Barnes & Noble, Arlington Heights. For details, call (847) 358-5881 or visit www.palatinelibrary.org.
