United Way of Elgin to host Day of Caring

The date is set for United Way of Elgin’s 17th annual Day of Caring, which will take place Friday, Sept. 9. Day of Caring not only marks the beginning of the United Way’s annual campaign, but also gives community volunteers the chance to improve the lives of individuals who need help.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for the entire community to come together and show how much we care about our friends and neighbors,” said Elissa Kojzarek, special initiatives manager of the United Way of Elgin.

This year for the Day of Caring, volunteers will gather to work on group projects within the community. More than 30 projects have been submitted by Elgin area agencies and nonprofits. United Way is currently seeking volunteers to help complete these projects.

Projects include outdoor activities such as landscaping group homes, painting exteriors and client picnics, as well as indoor activities such as sorting clothing and food donations, reading to preschoolers and packing meals for homebound seniors.

“This year, volunteers have the opportunity to really dig in and lend a hand in their community with projects that directly benefit agency staff and clients. In the years past, over 300 individuals have signed up to volunteer, and we hope to exceed that total this year,” said Kojzarek.

“We are excited to once again coordinate such a large-scale community project.”
