Woman shot by husband in Lake Villa Twp. expected to recover

A Lake Villa Township woman who was shot during a domestic dispute is expected to make a full recovery, Lake County Sheriff’s officials said Tuesday.

The 49-year-old wife of Gordon D. Olsen had been shot in the chest and head Sunday in her home on the 36000 block of Lawrence Court.

Lt. Christopher Thompson said police learned Gordon Olsen had been drinking before he argued with his wife about 4 p.m.

Thompson confirmed the couple’s 21-year-old son was in his bedroom listening to music when the shots were fired.

“There had been some marriage troubles in the house, and the son was in his room listening to music,” Thompson said. “He put on head phones to drown out the argument and didn’t hear the gunshots or piece anything together until it was too late.”

After being shot, the woman crawled to the front porch where she phoned police, Thompson said. Minutes later, the son also called police, Thompson said.

Gordon Olsen was found dead inside the house from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Thompson said.

His wife was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she is in critical but stable condition, he said.
