Hoffman Estates library branch’s future still unclear

The Palatine Palatine Public Library District released a statement Friday that the future of the Freeman Road Branch in Hoffman Estates remains unclear after officials learned the building from which it leases space went into foreclosure July 11. The current lease expires Aug. 31. Residents have suggested relocating to the Hoffman Estates Jewel plaza on Palatine Road, but those buildings are also in foreclosure. Other suggestions of vacant properties on Algonquin Road won’t work because they’re not located within the district’s boundaries. Director Susan Strunk awaits information from the bank about options, and has been in contact with the village of Hoffman Estates mayor and staff. Library officials say they understand how important the branch is to residents and that they ask for patience as options are explored.
