Elgin Summer Theatre to stage ‘Annie’

Elgin Summer Theatre continues its production of “Annie” at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in downtown Elgin. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 22-23, and 3 p.m. Sunday, July 24.

Tickets are $15. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Hemmens box office, online at hemmens.org, or charge by phone at (847) 931-5900.

“Annie” is directed by Charlie Brieger of Elgin and is the fourth production for the Elgin Summer Theatre after a 12-year hiatus.

Sponsored by the city of Elgin, EST is a showcase for local talent in all age ranges.

The original production of “Annie,” inspired by Harold Gray’s “Little Orphan Annie” comic strip, was originally produced by the Goodspeed Opera House in 1976 before moving to Broadway, where it won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Book and Score.
