Local Students Win $1000 Scholarships

Kaitlyn Kobida, Barrington High School 2011, and Angela Rodriquez, Buffalo Grove High School 2011, winners of $1000 scholarships sponsored by VP (Venturi Partners) Construction and Tutoring Resources, have inspiring goals.

Kaitlyn will be attending the University of Iowa in the Fall, studying Speech Pathology with a minor in American Sign Language and plans to go on to earning a Masters Degree in speech-language pathology. “I look forward to the opportunity to work with different age ranges and disabilities,” says Kaitlyn who looks to the future. “As a Speech Pathologist, there are many avenues for employment, from focusing on children with delayed language development through helping adults regain speech after a stroke.”

Angela will, coincidentally, also study Speech Pathology. After graduation from the University of Illinois, she plans to focus on work in an elementary school. “I hope to help children with a speech impediment to overcome their difficulties at a young age,” says Angela who chose this profession in response to her own family's experiences. “As a speech pathologist, I am going to make a contribution by helping one child at a time to change their lives for the better.”

“All of the scholarship candidates are remarkable young men and women,” according to Keith Venturi, founder and president of VP Construction, a Barrington-based firm, “but Kaitlyn and Angela stand out even in this elite group.”

Dr. Sandi Ferguson, Tutoring Resources (Northbrook and Barrington), adds, “We are proud of the academic achievements of all of our students, but the scholarship selection committee recognized exceptional qualities in Kaitlyn and Angela. Their maturity and dedication in the service to others represent extraordinary foundations for success in college and beyond.”

Applications for the 2012 Scholarship will be available online at www.tutoring-resources.com beginning this October.
