A Lindenhurst man was placed on probation for one year Friday after pleading guilty to a reduced charge in a drug case.

Larry Grubbs, 44, pleaded guilty to attempted possession of a controlled substance during a hearing before Circuit Judge James Booras.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Danielle Pascucci said Grubbs, of the 400 block of Pheasant Ridge Court in Lindenhurst, was one of three people in a car stopped by Gurnee police on Russell Road on March 23.

Police found a small amount of heroin and some syringes in the car, Pascucci said, and arrested Grubbs, Jill Kolb, 25, and Nicholas Walls, 25.

Kolb, of the 100 block of Beachview Drive in Round Lake Beach, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance on April 13 and was placed on probation for two years.

Grubbs was originally charged with possession of a controlled substance, but Pascucci agreed to reduce the charge in exchange for his guilty plea.

Walls, of the 300 block of Thornwood Drive in Lindenhurst, has pleaded not guilty to possession of a controlled substance and is due to appear in court July 19.

Pascucci said possession of a controlled substance carries a maximum penalty of up to three years in prison, while attempted possession of a controlled substance is punishable by up to one year in jail.
