Stevenson’s Wilson a hit at Augustana

It didn’t take long for Pat Wilson to make an impact for the Augustana College baseball team.

The freshman first baseman who played for Stevenson High School was named to the all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin second team.

Wilson led the Vikings in hitting this year with a .386 average and finished as one off the team leaders with 39 RBI. His 171 at-bats, 66 hits and 79 total bases were also team highs and he tied for the team lead in doubles with 11.

The consistent freshman hit .386 in CCIW play and tied for the league lead with 34 hits. He finishing ninth in the conference in batting average, tied for third with 9 doubles and tied for fifth with 21 RBI. He struck out only four times in 95 CCIW plate appearances.

Ÿ Carthage senior right fielder Mike Petti (Mundelein) and junior first baseman Joey Aiello (Libertyville) were named to the All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin first team.

Pettti batted .418 with 13 doubles, 4 home runs, 24 RBI, and 6 stolen bases while Aiello hit .351 with 10 doubles, 3 home runs and 36 RBI.

Ÿ Junior pitcher Eric Rohe (Mundelein) earned second-team all-conference honors. He had a 7-2 record with a 2.85 ERA.

Men’s track and field

Andrew Lulis of Lake Zurich High School, plans on being a member of the Augustana track and field and cross country programs led by veteran coach Paul Olsen.

Lulis was a three-year letter winner in coach Chad Beaver’s track and field program at Lake Zurich and lettered twice in cross country for coach J.B. Hanson.

In addition, he lettered twice for coach Jill Kragseth in swimming.

The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Lulis is a pole vaulter and hurdler for the Bears. A three-time sectional qualifier in the pole vault, he cleared 13 feet this year, setting a personal best and tying the school record.

Lulis was a second-place finisher at the North Suburban Conference meet as a junior and selected as Lake Zurich’s “Most Improved Athlete” as a sophomore.

His personal record in the 300 intermediate hurdles is 42.1.

Competing for the Bears’ 2010 Class 3A state runner-up cross country team, Lulis posted a three-mile best of 16:16.

An Illinois State Scholar and North Suburban Conference All-Academic honoree as well as a recipient of the Prairie State Achievement Award, Lulis plans to major in chemistry or physics.

Warren volleyball camp

Warren Township High School will hold coed feeder volleyball camps for grades third-eighth June 13-23.

Grades 5-8 will meet Monday-Thursday, 8:30-10:30 a.m., at the O’Plaine Campus gyms. Third- and fourth-graders will meet 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The high school camps will be at the Almond Campus, 12:30-2:30 p.m. and 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Each level will be coached by current WTHS staff members, athletes and college athletes. Fundamental skills will be taught to both levels leading up to tournament games. Skills with be developed through a variety of repetitive drills, with lots of quality ball touches. The camps emphasize fun in our fundamentals. No former volleyball skills are needed. Cost for these camps is $105.

Warren girls basketball

Warren Township High School will hold camps for incoming freshmen and junior high schoolers. The incoming freshman camp will take place June 13-20, 1-3:30 p.m., at the Almond Campus field house. The junior high camp will take place June 20-30, 8-10 a.m., at the O’Plaine Campus gym. Cost for each camp is $105.

Camps will cover individual offensive skills such as shooting, dribbling and passing through the use of drills and competitive games. Shooting and layups using proper technique will be stressed. Fundamental team concepts will be taught as well. The goal of the camps is to teach players the proper techniques to become a better offensive basketball player. Current members of the high school staff as well as members of the basketball program will serve as instructors for the camp. Campers are encouraged to bring their own water bottle to every clinic session.

Rowing

Senior co-captain Adrienne Darrow (Barrington) led the Williams College Women’s Crew to its sixth straight Division III National Rowing Championship at Lake Natoma in Gold River, CA.

Darrow, who was recently named a First Team Division III All-American by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association, was in the Williams I boat (of eight rowers and a coxswain) which finished first by seven seconds.

Williams’s second boat finished sixth to lock up the team championship.

Darrow was also named a Scholar-Athlete by the CRCA and will graduate next week as a three-time National Championship team member.

Illinois Magic
