Barrington area fire board elects officers

The board of trustees of the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District has elected Thomas P. Rowan to serve as 2011-12 board president. He succeeds Marvin Hill, who becomes vice president.

Trustees also elected Dr. Thomas C. Long to serve as treasurer, and re-elected board Secretary Dr. Walter W. Dalitsch, a veterinarian with a practice in Barrington.

Trustee Paul M. Heinze continues as a fire protection district board member.

Tom Rowan has managed the fire district's website and public information efforts since his appointment to the board in 2008. A district resident for 21 years, he was fire district treasurer before being elected president.

An advertising professional with more than 30 years experience, Rowan is president and CEO of a firm that specializes in advertising, communications and web content. He has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn., in 1969, and began his professional career as an associate editor with a national magazine that reports on marketing and media. Rowan then spent two years in the U.S. Army, including a one-year tour in Vietnam.

Marvin Hill has been both district president and treasurer since being appointed to the board in 2003. He helped negotiate the current intergovernmental agreement between the district and Barrington for fire protection services, and oversaw initial development of the website. Hill is area representative to the Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts.

He is the former owner of a Northwest suburban-based printing company, past president of the Wheeling Chamber of Commerce, and has served on the Hoffman Estates Economic Development Commission. Hill has lived in the fire district since 1999.

Dr. Thomas C. Long has been district president, vice president, secretary and treasurer since his appointment to the board in 1995. He has lived in the district for 27 years.

Board certified in emergency and family medicine, Long is a medical consultant to insurance companies. He is a former associate project medical director for the Northwest Community and Elgin emergency medical systems.

Board member Paul M. Heinze has served multiple terms as board president, vice president, secretary and treasurer in his 18 years of service to the fire district.

A 33-year district resident, Heinze owns a Barrington Hills-based consulting business that provides executive coaching, team building, acquisition and strategic planning services.

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District board of trustees meets the third Monday of each month, 6:30 p.m. at the Barrington Public Safety Building, 400 N. Northwest Hwy., Barrington.
