New assistant principal named at Elk Grove school

Linda Buniak was appointed assistant principal at Rupley School in Elk Grove Village by the District 59 Board of Education May 12.

Buniak will replace Christine Zalaya, who is leaving Rupley at the conclusion of the school year to assume a principal position in another district.

Buniak is completing her sixth year as an administrator in the Educational Services Department in District 59. Before joining District 59, she spent a number of years in District 54 as a special education teacher, resource teacher and facilitator.

As the coordinator of Special Services/Autism in District 59, Buniak has been directly responsible for coordinating the Educational Life Skills and Learning Opportunity Programs in the district, along with working closely with NSSEO and LICA for students placed in programs outside of the district.

Additionally, Buniak has worked closely with staff to provide problem-solving assistance and professional development focused on best serving the students. Finally, as the facilitator of the Special Education Parent Support Network, Buniak helped coordinate opportunities for parent education throughout the district.

Buniak received a bachelor’s in Elementary Education/Special Education from Northern Illinois University, a master’s in Learning & Behavior Disabilities and a master’s in administration, both from National Louis University.

“It is with a great deal of pleasure that I recommend Mrs. Linda Buniak for the assistant principal position at Rupley Elementary School,” District 59 Superintendent Daniel R. Schweers said.

“ The members of the Superintendency Team and I look forward to the contributions Mrs. Buniak will continue to make as we work together to improve kids’ life chances.”
