Stevenson High board sworn in

Less than a month after coming in first in the race for seats on the Stevenson High School board, David Weisberg was sworn in as the panel's newest member Monday night.

Weisberg, 62, a political newcomer from Long Grove, topped a field of seven candidates. He ran with a slate of three incumbents — Merv Roberts, Bruce Lubin and Terry Moons — who retain their seats. Together, they'll serve for four years.

Weisberg, Roberts, Lubin and Moons took the oath from Superintendent Eric Twadell at the start of the board's regularly scheduled meeting.

Before the meeting, Weisberg said he was humbled and grateful to join the board.

“I'm looking forward to keeping the engine going (with) the people who preceded me,” Weisberg said. “And I don't want to let them down.”

Once Weisberg and the other winners were sworn in, the full six-member board chose its leaders for the new term. Lubin, the board's president since 2007, will remain in that post.

“It is my honor to accept that nomination,” Lubin said of the unopposed recommendation from board member Gary Gorson.

Likewise, Steven Frost will remain vice president and Moons will stay on as secretary.

Weisberg said he doesn't yet have any specific program-related goals for his new tenure as board member.

“There is a lot to learn,” he said. I'm not looking to be a big shot. I'm just looking to be someone who helps this school keep chugging along.”

Weisberg replaced board member Les Raff, who did not run for re-election.
