Wheeling's Haley survives another round on 'Idol'

Haley Reinhart's take on Adele's “Rolling In the Deep” wasn't overly praised by the judges Wednesday, but viewers liked it enough to send her into the Top 6 of “American Idol.”

For a change, the trip to the bottom three was a short one for “American Idol” finalist Haley Reinhart Thursday night.

Switching it up from past weeks where he's made the Wheeling native sweat out the results until the waning minutes of the show, host Ryan Seacrest immediately sent her back to safety — and into the Top 6.

The judges may not have been jumping up and down over Reinhart's cover of Adele's “Rolling In the Deep” and indeed there were moments were she sounded a little sharp, but the performance still stood out as one of the best of the night.

Voters clearly agreed, which will allow Reinhart to continue her upward trajectory.

Just before Seacrest gave her the good news, he asked Reinhart if she finally felt like she was finding her niche after a rocky start.

“Absolutely” she said. “Especially these last four weeks. I feel like I'm growing.”

Even if the judges seem to be harder on her than some of the other contestants, Reinhart has gained a couple fans who know something about success on the Idol stage.

Both Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson and Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert tweeted that Reinhart blew all of the competition away Wednesday night.

Leaving the competition Thursday night was Stefano Lagone. The Kent, Wash., native's tepid take on Ne-Yo's “Closer” went off the rails once he busted out wacky dance moves.

In reality, Lagone had lived close to the edge for weeks and was a permanent fixture in the bottom three, appearing there three out of four possible times.

Jacob Lusk joined Reinhart and Lagone in the rounding out the bottom three.

The remaining Idol finalists take on the songs of Carole King next week, which should be right in Reinhart's wheelhouse.

The final six take the Idol stage again on Wednesday before another singer is voted off Thursday.
