• Three men were seen stealing copper pipes from a vacant house in the 6N800 block of Elgin Avenue, St. Charles Township, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, police said. They dropped the 30 pieces of pipe when they noticed they were being watched. The men were white. One was about 5 feet 9 inches, 180 pounds, with blond hair, wearing an orange shirt, jean shorts and black shoes. A witness told deputies he believes the man is related to one of his schoolmates. Another suspect had black hair, was about 5 feet 6 inches tall, and wore a black shirt. There was no further description of the third man.

• Between 8 a.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday someone broke into storage compartments on the side of an International truck and stole four Skil chain saws and two Skil hedge trimmers, in the 9N500 block of Nesler Road, Elgin Township, according to a police report.
