Burlington Central's Maroder to have MRI on knee

The football season could be over before it really gets started for Burlington Central senior running back Tim Maroder.

On just his second carry of the game Friday night against Kaneland, Maroder injured his left knee. He will have an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the damage.

"I was running outside with the ball and the corner(back) came up and I went to fake outside," Maroder said Sunday. "As I cut I just felt it pop."

Maroder didn't play the remainder of the game and finished with 5 yards on 2 carries in the Rockets' 37-22 loss to Kaneland at Rocket Hill.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Maroder is a four-year varsity player at Central. Last season he was the team's quarterback and he earned special mention honors in the Big Northern East after gaining 524 yards in 100 carries and scoring 6 touchdowns. He was moved to the backfield this season in BC's split back system with fellow senior Tre Llanes, as sophomore Ryan Ritchie has taken over the quarterback duties.

Maroder said he's been getting college interest from the likes of Valparaiso University, Indiana State, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Upper Iowa, Dubuque, and Augustana, among others.

"I'm just hoping the 10 percent chance I have of being OK comes through," he said. "We'll see.

"It's real tough. I can't believe this is happening to me. You hear about it happening to other people and you never think it's going to happen to you."

The Rockets travel to Sycamore this Friday night for a nonconference game.
