• Susanne W. Glazbrook was appointed to the Palatine Public Library District board of library trustees. She was sworn in at a special meeting of the board on June 29.

A resident of the library district for 14 years, Glazbrook, an enthusiastic library patron, participated in public input sessions regarding the Second Floor Renovation project which was completed in 2009. She has experience as an attorney in both the private and public sectors and is currently raising her two young daughters.

For several years, Glazbrook has been an active volunteer in the community, especially with her church and local PTA.

• The International Special Events society (ISES) nominated Carey Smolensky, owner and founder of Mobile Music Interactive Entertainment and Carey Smolensky Productions, in Wheeling, for its prestigious ISES Esprit Award in the category of 2010 Best ISES Team Effort Budget Under $75,000.

A special events professional for over 32 years, Smolensky has been nominated for, and received, a NICE Award for Best Entertainment, as well as a Gala Award for Best Entertainment Concept from the ISES.

The Best ISES Team Effort event nominated for the 2010 ISES Esprit was a Studio 54-themed welcome reception for M.P.l. at the Griffin Lounge produced by the local Chicago ISES chapter.

• The District 15 board of education approved the hire of new assistant principals for Hunting Ridge and Stuart R. Paddock Schools during its June 9 meeting. Christine Mitchell will serve as assistant principal at Hunting Ridge, and Teresa Reiche as Paddock's assistant principal.

Mitchell comes to District 15 from Woodridge School District 68, where she served as a special-education teacher for the past four years. She also served there as a summer school administrator. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Fordham University, and master's degrees in special education teaching and administration and supervision from National Louis University.

Reiche joins District 15 from Cary Community Consolidated School District 26, where she served as a curriculum coordinator for the past four years. Before that, she served as a teacher in District 26 for six years. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from National Louis University, a master's degree in instruction and leadership from St. Xavier University, and a Type 75 Administrative Certificate from Concordia University.

• Martina Perez, currently a bilingual kindergarten teacher in District 59, was recommended as the new coordinator of English Language Learners for Community Consolidated School District 59. The board of education took formal action to approve the recommendation at its June 28 meeting.

Perez will replace Susan Ejma, who was recently named executive director for English Language Learners.

Perez has just completed her 15th year of employment in School District 59. Before teaching kindergarten at Rupley, she worked at John Jay and Devonshire Schools serving as a classroom, Title I, and resource teacher. She holds a bachelor's degree in commerce and an master's degree in education from DePaul University and a master's degree in school leadership from Concordia University.
