  • Police: Man shot in chase he led still improving Nov 16, 2014 9:55 PM
    The 18-year-old Ingleside man who police say led them on a destructive car chase last Thursday night is still recovering from a gunshot wound to his cheek and a broken arm, and is no longer in critical condition. Advocate Condell Medical Center officials said Sunday that Ronald Q. Maas is improving and in good condition but remains at the Libertyville hospital where he was taken after police apprehended him early Friday morning.

    A South suburban man charged in the slaying of a Round Lake Beach resident will receive a preliminary hearing on Dec. 10. Jeremy Anderson, 36, of Chicago Heights, was ordered held on a $3 million bond by Lake County Judge Michael Betar during Saturday morning bond court, Anderson was arrested Wednesday in Gary, Indiana, and extradited to Lake County.

    A former Round Lake Beach police officer facing prison time on theft charges was ordered Thursday to keep away from village officials after authorities say he falsely accused Mayor Richard Hill of driving while intoxicated. Ex-cop Kenneth Rydz, 41,was charged over the summer with using a police department credit card to make personal purchases.

    Two former Lake County jail guards accused of not assisting an inmate paralyzed during a 2011 jailhouse scuffle pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of official misconduct. The inmate, a 51-year-old Grayslake man, died several months after suffering the injury.

    U.S. Marshals acting on tips captured a man in Gary on Wednesday who was wanted in connection with the weekend slaying of a Round Lake Beach resident. Jeremy Anderson, 36, of Chicago Heights was arrested without incident and is scheduled for an extradition hearing Thursday.

    Sentencing for a Mundelein man convicted of murder for intentionally causing a 2012 crash that killed a Round Lake Beach mother of three has been delayed until the end of the month. Mark Oelerich, 23, was to be sentenced to prison by Judge James Booras early Monday, but attorneys requested additional time due to scheduling conflicts with key witnesses.
