On Saturday, Oct. 13, the Illinois Railway Museum in Union will celebrate the public transportation heritage of the Cream City. Milwaukee Transit Day will feature examples of rail and bus transit from across Milwaukee and southeast Wisconsin and spanning most of the 20th century.

Singers who will participate in the Fox Valley Rising Stars Vocal Competition were determined after a preliminary round June 30. Soirée Lyrique's competition will take place Saturday, July 14, during Fest on the Fox, presented by the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce.

New-car dealers in the Chicago area are on a summertime mission to raise awareness and funds for local troops and their families. The Chicago Automobile Trade Association and its dealer members are partnering with the USO of Illinois to host the sixth annual "Barbecue for the Troops" on Saturday, July 14.

Traci L. Warren, 39, of Elgin, was charged Saturday with retail theft, Carpentersville police said. She is accused of stealing $176 worth of merchandise from Walmart on Lake Marian Road.
