It is the second year in a row that District 214 has taken home this honor - former Wheeling High School principal Lazaro Lopez won it last year.

    Northwest Suburban High School District 214 is preparing for its next budget year with some preliminary guidelines, although many factors about future financials are still unknown. “We need to pick a starting point to building our budget for next year,” said Superintendent Dave Schuler at the board's meeting on Thursday. “We acknowledge that there is a lot of updating that is going to happen between now and the final budget.”

    Township High School District 214 has had one of the best performances ever on the SkillsUSA Qualifying Exams. Not only are the state’s top qualifiers in Automotive Service, Carpentry and Plumbing from Elk Grove and Prospect high schools, but also more than 15 District 214 students qualified to compete in the 2014 SkillsUSA Championships for Skill and Leadership. The event takes place on Friday, April 4, at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield.

The play draws on hundreds of interviews and news reports to tell the story of the fatal beating of a 21-year-old gay Wyoming college student named Matthew Shepard in 1998.

    Catherine M. Lee, a sitting board member of District 214’s Continuing Education Foundation and the driving force behind its ESL training and literacy for immigrant women, has died. Mike Field, executive director of District 214’s continuing education foundation, said Lee was the catalyst of the Women and Children’s Center. “Catherine Lee was truly a citizen of the world who believed that when one life is improved, it causes a positive chain reaction affecting many others,” Field said.

The kids' wishes won out Sunday as dozens of suburban school districts called off classes Monday. “It's kind of a nightmare for the parents,” said Jen Ortman of Arlington Heights.
