    A Vernon Hills home was left uninhabitable after a fire Friday evening, officials said. Crews were called to a house on the 1100 block of Wadsworth Place just before 6 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the garage and front door, according to a news release from the Countryside Fire Protection District.
