  • Vernon Hills likely to boost sales tax, lower other costs Aug 8, 2014 8:06 AM
    Vernon Hills trustees informally agreed to add a quarter-percent sales tax as of Jan. 1 but offset the effect on residents by lowering utility taxes or paying a portion of recycling fees. The increase is needed to pay a $1.2 million-per-year economic incentive to Westield Hawthorn shopping center and maintain the village's top credit rating. "I think it's the course that makes the most sense," said Finance Director Larry Nakrin.
