The village board Thursday night heard a presentation from McHenry County Division of Transportation officials about the county’s MCRide Dial-a-Ride Transit Service program. It would cost Huntley $48,500 yearly to participate and would allow residents to commute within Huntley and Kane County.

As a result, Grafton Township, which had been driving the senior and disabled residents living in Rutland's portion of Sun City at no cost to Rutland, will pull the plug on service to Rutland after Nov. 30. “That was a no vote by the four of the five members," Grafton Township Supervisor James Kearns said Monday.

    Rutland Township trustees will again discuss whether to offer bus service for its senior and disabled residents, with at least two trustees saying they’re against the plan. Trustees Charleen Carlson and Steve Schuldt, along with Fred Bulmahn and John Payson, ran on a slate in which they promised not to raise taxes. For the moment, Carlsen and Schuldt don’t see themselves wavering from that position. “I can’t justify it right now,” Schuldt said. “I’m going to be voting against the busing.”
