    In the 81st District, state Rep. Ron Sandack says he narrowly survived a challenge from fellow Downers Grove Republican Keith Matune for his party’s nomination for the seat in Tuesday’s primary election. Sandack claimed 6,744 votes while Matune got 6,590, according to unofficial election results.

     
  • Ives named Republican nominee in 42nd House race Mar 18, 2014 11:47 PM
    Incumbent Jeanne Ives on Tuesday laid claim to the Republican nomination in the race for the 42nd state House district. With all precincts reporting, unofficial counts show Ives, a freshman representative from Wheaton, with 63 percent of the votes. Challenger Adam Johnson of Warrenville has 37 percent.

     
  • Miller wins McHenry Co. treasurer GOP primary Mar 19, 2014 1:16 AM
    Glenda Miller won the Republican primary for McHenry County treasurer, according to Tuesday’s unofficial vote tallies. Miller, 58, of Harvard, who has worked as chief deputy treasurer for 17 years, had 14,665 votes, and Jeffrey Thorsen, a 55-year-old Crystal Lake councilman and vice president of FirstMerit Bank, had 11,890 votes with all 212 precincts reporting.

    Bill Prim prevailed by a slim margin of 98 votes in the Republican primary for sheriff in McHenry County, in which he ran against undersheriff Andrew Zinke. Prim of Cary had 14,516 votes while Zinke of Woodstock had 14,418 votes with all 212 precincts reporting, according to unofficial results on Tuesday night.

    County board member Mary McClellan won the Republican primary for McHenry County clerk, as her opponent and fellow county board member Nick Provenzano conceded the race late Tuesday night. McClellan had 15,721 votes while Nick Provenzano had 12,099 votes, with all 212 precincts reporting, according to unofficial results.

    Wiht only 1 precinct remaining uncounted, Cook County Commissioner Liz Doody Gorman has won the Republican primary for the 17th District seat over Burr Ridge doctor Barbara Bellar. She will face Orland Park Democrat Jim Hickey in November.

    Republican congressional hopeful Manju Goel called on an Indian-American SuperPAC Monday to tweak a misleading website critical of fellow Republican candidate Larry Kaifesh, but added she believes the site contains “factual information” that people need to know about her opponent. Her refusal to repudiate the site has led several GOP leaders to call for her withdrawal from the race.
