    Two Northwest suburban running clubs are offering a runner safety discussion on Tuesday, Dec. 16. The discussion will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Palatine Public Library, Room 1, 700 N. North Court, Palatine. Several speakers will be sharing information on how to maximize runner safety.

    The Palatine Historical Society’s annual Holiday Open House will celebrate Christmas through the Decades from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Clayson House Museum, 224 E. Palatine Road, Palatine. Each room will be decorated to reflect holidays from the past and the event will include costumed characters, music and refreshments. The Open House is free of charge and open to the community.

  • Heart ailment fundraiser Sunday in Palatine Nov 21, 2014 5:31 PM
    A fundraiser to raise money for scholarships and to foster heart tests for student athletes, conducted in honor of a student athlete who died of an undetected heart ailment, is being held Sunday at Birchwood Park in Palatine. Hoofin’ 4 Hardy, sponsored by nonprofit Joshua Jared Hardy Charities, is a 5K run/2 mile walk at 9 a.m., with registration at 7:30 a.m. Fee is $30.

    Jim Clegg, who’s served on the Palatine village council since January 2010, resigned his District 3 seat this week because he is moving out of town. “It’s been my goal to meet the needs of the constituents in the village and I tried to do that,” said Clegg, who’s lived in Palatine for more than 32 years.

The event, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., also will include a scarecrow contest, live entertainment, a pig roast, pumpkins for sale, a bounce house, and arts and crafts vendors.

    Palatine Park District presents the Full Moon Bike Ride at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10. The ride will start at Palatine Hills Golf Course, 512 W. Northwest Highway, Palatine, and will follow the bike path and bike trail in Palatine for a leisurely seven mile ride. Helmets and lights are required for all riders.

    Flooding that forced Palatine Hills Golf Course to close several holes over the weekend served as a reminder that plans to address the course's ongoing water problems have not yet been implemented fully. Parts of four holes at the Palatine Park District's 18-hole course were underwater at the opening of business Sunday as a result of Saturday's heavy rains.

    Palatine Park District offers a Kids Rule Wednesday Night Program on Wednesday, Aug. 6. Organized games and activities will be provided on the turf and in the gym from 6 to 9 p.m. for ages 7 to 13. Prize raffles will be held, and pizza and snacks will be available for purchase from the concession stand. This supervised recreational evening will be held at Falcon Park Recreation Center, 2195 N. Hicks Road, Palatine.
