Local officials have yet to receive U.S. Education Department letters requiring schools to include students with disabilities in sports programs, or provide equal alternatives. Elgin Area School District U-46 officials were among those unaware of the new mandate as of late Thursday. Patrick Mogge, director of school and community relations, said the impact on the athletic budget is still unknown.

Libertyville High School band director Jeffrey Daeschler has been fired for having an “inappropriate physical relationship” with a female student, then 18, District 128 officials announced Tuesday. “The weight and the validity of the evidence clearly led to the conclusion we drew and I’ll have to leave it at that,” Superintendent Prentiss Lea said at a meeting for parents.

A strategy to ask Libertyville voters if they would be willing to hike property taxes to convert a former high school into a community center will be deferred until March 2014. The Libertyville village board tabled a resolution that would have put an advisory question on the April 9 ballot, after project supporters said a better course would be to wait a year and present voters with a binding question.

LHS band director on paid leave, but officials won’t say why Jan 10, 2013 12:00 AM
Libertyville High School band director Jeffrey T. Daeschler has been on paid administrative leave since November, District 128 officials have confirmed. But district officials won’t say why, citing legal privacy concerns. “It is a personnel matter which we are not able to discuss,” Libertyville-Vernon Hills Area High School District 128 spokeswoman Mary Todoric said.
