    A Grayslake Elementary District 46 substitute teacher was sentenced to 18 months of court supervision after striking a plea deal in a case stemming from the telephone harassment of a school board member while instructors were on strike. Christopher Culp, 43, of the 600 block of South Rose Hall Lane in Round Lake, admitted to one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct for the deal he entered into Tuesday in Lake County circuit court.

    A Grayslake Elementary District 46 substitute teacher pleaded not guilty to harassing a school board member during a three-day teachers strike in January. Christopher Culp, 43, of the 600 block of South Rose Hall Lane in Round Lake, was told by Lake County Judge John Scully to have no contact with Shannon Smigielski, the board member he allegedly harassed. Smigielski has since resigned her seat.

    Grayslake Elementary District 46 board members made a dent in a projected $2.2 million deficit for 2013-14 by eliminating about 15 full-time classroom instructors and dismissing four full-time special-ed teachers. Superintendent Ellen Correll said principals and others spent about four weeks discussing the recommended cuts. "I wish we could keep everything," Correll said. "I wish there was no deficit."
