  • Bartlett wants to be more defensive Aug 27, 2014 2:39 PM
The Bartlett football program isn’t used to missing the playoffs like it did in 2013 for only the only the second time in 14 years. Of course, the coaching staff isn’t used to starting seven sophomores like they did a year ago either. Of those seven sophomores, five started on defense. Such inexperience was partly to blame for un-Bartlett-like averages of 29.4 points and 330 yards allowed per game, a minus-4 turnover margin and an eventual 4-5 finish.

  • Burlington Central 3rd in Class 2A May 31, 2014 10:04 PM
During the more than three-hour bus ride to Eastern Illinois University, the members of the Burlington Central track team knew that winning at a trophy at the Class 2A state track and field championships this weekend at O’Brien Field was more than possible. That is, if the Rockets did what they were capable of. The formula was simple. Watch junior Lucas Ege run real fast in his hurdles races and in the two relays and let the chips fall where they may. Of course, Ege had plenty of help too. SIU-Edwardsville-bound senior Matt O’Connor would place second in the 800-meter run to add 8 very valuable points. But even with all of that, it would take a fantastic performance from Ege, O’Connor, Casey Matthews and Kyle Neubauer in the 1,600-meter relay to end the meet to give the Rockets the final push in points they would need.

St. Charles North will play Glenbard North in the Bartlett sectional semifinal on Tuesday.

As coach Mike Schmidt was hoping, the Burlington Central Rockets boys track and field team put itself in prime position for big things in the team race Saturday at the IHSA state meet at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Field. Junior Lucas Ege is seeded second in the 300 hurdles and 110 high hurdles after a relatively stress-free qualifying session.

  • Burlington Central’s sites set on trophy May 29, 2014 9:40 PM

  • Pagan’s 2-hitter lifts Bartlett past Glenbard West May 28, 2014 10:01 PM
One crack of Alyssa Nowak’s bat and Holly Pagan’s strong right arm was about all the Bartlett softball team needed Wednesday in its Class 4A Addison Trail regional semifinal game against Glenbard West. But the Hawks’ hit parade kept up well after Nowak’s two-run home run in the second inning, and Bartlett went on to a 7-0 win and a date against Upstate Eight Conference rival and No. 4 seed St. Charles North for the regional title at 11 a.m. Saturday.

  • Batavia survives scare from Bartlett, wins in 10th inning May 28, 2014 10:30 PM
Nobody said it would be easy. Batavia, which earned the top seed in the Schaumburg Class 4A baseball sectional, faced the brink of elimination after 15th-seeded Bartlett (14-17) grabbed a 4-2 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning during Wednesday’s regional semifinal clash in Elmhurst.
