The Partnership for Inspired Education (PIE) annual event joins four school district serving nine communities to raise funds for education. More than 400 people attended the group's recent fundraiser in Oakbrook Terrace, which raised close to $13,000. “It was wonderful to see a room filled with people, all of whom were there in support of education,” said Michele Cummins, principal for District 45's Ardmore School.

Police say a student at Indian Trail Junior High School in Addison has admitted she lied about being restrained by a school intruder -- a report that prompted authorities to lock down the building for three hours Friday as worried parents gathered outside. "At no time was the security at (the school) breached," Addison Police Director Bill Hayden said at a news conference Monday.

Addison police released no new information Saturday about the girl found restrained Friday morning inside a bathroom at Indian Trail Junior High School. As students began a three-day weekend because of Monday's observance of Columbus Day, Addison Elementary District 4 Superintendent John Langton said counselors will be available Tuesday.

A girl was found restrained inside a bathroom at Indian Trail Junior High School in Addison on Friday morning, prompting a three-hour lockdown while police searched the building for intruders, authorities said. Addison police began searching immediately after receiving the 9:44 a.m. call saying the girl had been found restrained, police Director Timothy "Bill" Hayden said. No suspicious people were found, so students at Indian Trail and next-door Army Trail Elementary School were released from lockdown about 1 p.m.

Dist. 203, 204 offering choice for families at struggling schoolsJul 31, 2012 12:00 AM
Two of Illinois' largest and best-performing school systems are joining many other districts across the state this fall in offering families the choice to leave schools struggling to meet federal standards. Naperville Unit District 203 alerted families at Mill Street Elementary School earlier this week that they will be allowed to transfer to other district schools. Indian Prairie Unit District 204 will send letters Wednesday informing parents at Georgetown and Longwood elementary schools that they also will be given the choice to transfer because the two schools likely failed to make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the third consecutive year.

Addison District 4 to test full-day kindergarten Jan 24, 2012 12:00 AM
In an effort to make sure students start with a competitive edge, Addison School District 4 will pilot a full-day kindergarten program next fall. The program will be at Army Trail School and will include one English speaking class and one bilingual class, where instruction is given in Spanish. Administrators are still determining how many students will be accepted.

Group donates gifts for every student at Addison schoolDec 23, 2011 12:00 AM
Students at Lake Park Elementary School in Addison didn't know what to expect when teachers summoned them into the cafeteria earlier this week.What they discovered were teachers in elf costumes and tables full of gifts toys -- bundles of three, in fact, for every single child. The gifts came thanks to the Carol Stream-based Humanitarian Service Project, which collects donations of presents for underprivileged children and families each Christmas.

Grammy nominee puts on show in Addison classroom Jan 21, 2011 12:00 AM
She's played all over the world, but Ruthie Foster put on a show Friday just for students at an elementary school in Addison. Students at Ardmore School were treated to a special concert by Foster, a Grammy Award nominee. A singer-songwriter of blues and folk music, Foster performed for about 40 minutes for early childhood, kindergartners, first-graders and staff.

Special ed expansion coming to Addison school Dec 17, 2010 12:00 AM
Students coming back from winter break at Lake Park Elementary School in Addison will notice some changes starting shortly after their return. Construction is slated to begin in February on a $450,000 expansion that will add four rooms to the east end of the school at 330 Lake Park Drive, which will serve as small meeting space and classrooms for special education groups, district officials said.

Woman ordered to repay Addison school PTA for theft Nov 9, 2010 12:00 AM
The ex-treasurer of an Addison PTA was ordered Tuesday to repay $10,000 she stole from the parent group’s coffers, leaving it on the verge of bankruptcy. Danuta “Donna” Bielanski, 37, of Wood Dale, also must complete 30 months of probation, 80 hours of community service and outpatient alcoholism treatment, DuPage County Judge Kathryn Creswell ruled at a sentencing hearing in Wheaton.
