Indian Trails Library Staff Receives ILA Award

Carla Lasky was the recipient of the 2018 Oberman-Rich Award that recognizes contributions of support staff to the library community, May 4, 2018. The award is presented by the Illinois Library Association's Reaching Forward. Lasky was selected from 20 nominees in the state.

"It's all about access," Lasky said. As libraries continue to increase their digital offerings, Lasky noted that "Books aren't going anywhere even though we're becoming more of a community and maker space. It's the way people are accessing stories that's changing."

Lasky, who has an educational background in publishing, began at Indian Trails Library in 2012 in the Circulation department, before transferring to Adult Services. "I love connecting people to resources and making recommendations," she said. She was instrumental in reenergizing the library's Fan Club, a program designed to connect readers with favorite authors. Lasky has also developed and presented several library programs, including the Knit & Crochet Club and the Crochet Basics Workshop.

This June, Lasky will begin a new position at the library as an interlibrary loan specialist, a role that will offer her the chance to help members get requested items from other libraries.
